The Royal Oak Animal Shelter has been run by a group of dedicated, animal loving volunteers until 2018 when the ex-Mayor’s wife was given the first paid-position as shelter manager. Since she has been hired, dedicated volunteers and concerned citizens have raised questions regarding shelter management, sustainability and budget. Not only being dismissed, the volunteers and former employees have been described as “troublemakers who complain about everything”. The new management style at the shelter has alienated dedicated volunteers, employees, sponsors, contributors, other shelter owners and concerned citizens. Through the continuation of current management, animals have, and will suffer as volunteers will continue to be left in the dark. This is yet another case of nepotism, cronyism and against the wishes of the residents in Royal Oak by the Mayor, commission majority and others in Royal Oak Government.
